Environmental Impact & Waste Reduction

Environmental Impact and Waste Reduction

Our environmental impact is mostly waste. A strip out or a demolition takes a building apart and produces tonnes of material in a short time, and where that material goes is the thing that matters most.

What we check before we start

Old buildings hide things, and finding them late is expensive

Before a job starts we work out what is in the building, what can be separated, what has to be handled as hazardous, and where each stream is going. That is half a day of work that saves a fortune later, and it tells the client something useful before the skips are ordered rather than after.

Anything built before the 1990s can contain bonded or friable asbestos. Vinyl tiles and their glue, fire doors, electrical backing boards, pipe lagging, eave and wall sheeting. Older ceiling spaces carry lead dust from decades of old paint. We survey rather than assume, because finding it on paper is cheap and finding it with an excavator is not.

Separating the streams

Concrete and brick to crushing, steel and non ferrous metals to the scrap merchant, timber separated where there is volume in it, plasterboard where a facility will take it, and only the genuine residual going to landfill. Sorting costs time on site and saves money at the gate, so there is no conflict between doing it properly and doing it cheaply.

Hazardous and contaminated material

Asbestos, contaminated soil, lead affected material, chemicals and liquid waste are classified, transported and disposed of under our own licences within Perfect Group, with the paperwork to match.

It never goes into a general waste load. Not to save money, not to save time, and not because a bin happened to be on site. That one is not negotiable, and you should not use a contractor who treats it as if it is. The regulator holds the person who generated the waste responsible, and that is you, not the truck driver.

Dockets, not claims

We give you weighbridge dockets on everything. If you have council conditions, environmental reporting obligations or a green star target, those dockets are your evidence, and chasing them after the fact from a waste broker is a miserable job. We would rather hand you the paperwork than publish a recycling percentage you have no way of checking.

The street outside the job

Dust suppression, protected drains, a swept street, trucks kept off the road at school pick up times, and a hoarding that looks like somebody cares.

The people living next to a demolition judge the whole industry on what they see out the front window, and they are usually right to. A complaint that reaches council can cost you weeks, so dealing with people properly is cheaper than the alternative as well as being the decent thing.
