Diversity and Inclusion
Strip out and demolition has a reputation for being a closed shop. People who got in because they knew somebody, and a culture that has not moved much in thirty years.
We have not fixed that and neither has anyone else in this industry. What we do know is that a good crew does not all come from the same place.

Who is actually on our crews
Our crews come from a lot of different backgrounds and a fair number of our people were not born here. On a site where an instruction has to be understood first time, that is something you manage properly rather than hope for.

So toolbox talks get delivered in a way everyone actually follows, people are paired up while they are new, and a supervisor checks understanding rather than nods at it. If someone has not understood the SWMS, that is our problem to solve, not theirs. A language gap on a demolition site is a safety issue before it is anything else.
Getting into the trade
Demolition is one of the few trades a person can walk into without a qualification and build a career from. We use that.

People come on as labourers and work through their construction induction, plant tickets, asbestos training and supervisor qualifications if they want them. We pay for the training. Several of our site managers started out loading bins, and that path is open to anyone who turns up and does the work.

What we will not tolerate on site
Bullying, racism and hazing are not banter and they are not part of learning the job. On our sites it gets dealt with, and not quietly. The same standard applies to how our crews treat other trades, the client's staff and the people living next to the job.

Working with the clients we work for
Most of our work is for builders and head contractors who have their own diversity and inclusion requirements, and increasingly those flow down into the subcontract. We are used to working to them, reporting against them, and to the inductions and codes of conduct that come with them.
If you have a policy you need us to work under, send it with the tender documents. We would rather tell you plainly whether we can meet it than agree and then miss it.

Perfect Stripout & Demolition acknowledges the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as Traditional Custodians of the country on which we live and work. We pay our respects to the Traditional Custodians and Elders past, present and future, and honour their connection to the land and ongoing contribution to society.
