Stripout of 4 shops – Sydney Airport
Project Details
- Client Hicon
- Location Sydney Domestic Airport
- Duration 3 weeks
Our longstanding client Hicon hired Perfect Strip Out and Demolition to conduct a coordinated demolition of four shops at the same time. The entire job was carried out at Terminal Two of the Mascot Domestic Airport, specifically in the area housing the food court.
Strip out and Demolition activities performed in the four stores involved the removal of all fixtures, fittings, and structures from floor to ceiling. Each of the four shops had a similar scope of work that involved removing cages, floor tiles along with bedding screed, wall panels, wall tiles, internal partitions, ceiling grids and tiles, ceiling panels and set ceiling. The project also entailed removing kitchen equipment such as sinks and hoods, joinery, counters, and loose furniture. Furthermore, Perfect Concrete Care team assisted us with floor grinding tasks.
The team from Perfect worked tirelessly day and night for a period of three weeks to ensure the successful completion of the project. Each day, a group of approximately 20 motivated team members set to hard work. The work was divided into two parts – 15 team members worked during regular business hours, concentrating on standard demolition tasks, while 5 team members handled the noisiest jobs such as hammering, tile removal, and handling oversize items and cutting them to fit the sizes during the night shifts.
During the project, we utilized Perfect’s forklifts to aid us in lifting, stacking, and transferring loads. In addition, we used skip bins to contain debris, recyclable materials, and non-recyclable materials.
The daily high-security checks on the tools and labourers posed the most significant challenge, mainly because the work was carried out at the airport. Furthermore, any items removed from the construction site at night underwent a check on every occasion. Limited access to the job site was another challenge. Adherence to the Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) was crucial to maintaining a high level of safety at work. Wearing full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), tagging equipment, signing documents, and complying with the airport management’s regulations were mandatory.
The strip out of four shops at Sydney Domestic Airport was accomplished within the allocated time and budget, with a great deal of attention to detail and professionalism. The end result was a clean and open area that can now be repurposed.
Our client, Hicon, was happy about the results and praised the Perfect Strip Out team for their expertise, effective management, and commitment to safety.
